A / AAAA

Where the site lives

A records map a name to an IPv4 address, AAAA to IPv6. These decide which server answers your visitors.

MX / TXT

How mail is handled

MX records route email; TXT records carry SPF, DKIM, DMARC and domain-verification tokens.

NS / SOA

Who is authoritative

NS records name the DNS provider in charge. SOA holds the zone serial and refresh timers.

TTL

How long changes take

TTL is how many seconds resolvers cache a record. Lower it before a migration so changes propagate faster.

DNS Lookup — FAQ

What is a DNS lookup?+
A DNS lookup asks the Domain Name System which records exist for a domain — for example which IP address its website uses (A record) or which servers receive its email (MX record).
Why do my DNS changes not show yet?+
Resolvers cache records for the TTL period. If the old record had a TTL of 14400, some networks keep serving it for up to 4 hours after you change it.
Which DNS records do I need for a website?+
At minimum an A record (and ideally AAAA) for the root domain, a CNAME or A record for www, MX records if you receive email, and TXT records for SPF and DMARC.
Does this tool query authoritative nameservers?+
It queries the public DNS from our servers in India, so you see what typical Indian resolvers return. Use the NS records shown to confirm the authoritative provider.
